Meet the Sisters Behind Birdsong

One of Amy’s earliest childhood memories was when her big sister Cynthia was up with her before sunrise. The house was still dark and everyone was asleep, but Cynthia was patient and kind, and together they sat on the floor and played. Ever the nurturer, it was Cynthia who taught Amy many things, like how to blow a bubble with her chewing gum and even how to whistle. So it should come as no surprise that Cynthia is the one who taught Amy how to play American Mahjong.

Both sisters inherited a love for beautiful table scapes, community and creativity from their mom.

Many would agree that Cynthia has a multitude of talents. Like how she pulls together interiors with ease and is able to transform any space or gathering into something really special. Her nurturing is evident in her professional background as a nurse. She is a proud mom of 4, and a beloved “CeCe” to 8 grandchildren. She and her husband live in Augusta, GA where she first discovered mahjong and enjoys playing there often. She is a certified Oh My Mahjong instructor.

Amy is a professional fine artist who lives in Birmingham, AL with her husband. They enjoy playing mahjong together in the morning and with their 2 children when they come home to visit. While Amy studied art throughout her entire education, she has degrees in both Marketing and Business. She worked with Southern Living magazine, as well as other titles, until she decided to pursue art professionally full time and work from home while her children were small. Amy’s work has been sold with Serena & Lily, seen in corporate art collections around the south, featured in numerous publications and exhibitions. While she has won many awards, it is the connections art has brought that is most rewarding to her.

Creating “Birdsong Mahjong” has not only resulted in introducing new tiles and mats, but has given more reasons for two sisters to keep in touch. To work together and dream up new ideas no matter the distance.
